Honest answers about vehicle protection, ceramic and graphene coatings, detailing preparation, warranties, maintenance, and what to expect when working with Superior Coatings Texas.

Ceramic Coatings

What is ceramic coating?

Ceramic coating is a transparent, hydrophobic protective layer that chemically bonds to your vehicle’s surface. It is most commonly applied to paint, but specialized coatings can also protect glass, wheels, trim, leather, and other non-porous surfaces.

How does ceramic coating protect my vehicle?

Ceramic coating creates a durable barrier that helps protect against UV damage, oxidation, harsh chemicals, water spotting, dirt, road grime, and environmental contaminants. It also makes washing easier because dirt and contamination do not bond as aggressively to the surface.

Who is ceramic coating for?

Ceramic coating is ideal for anyone who wants to keep their vehicle looking its best long-term. It is a great option for daily drivers, luxury vehicles, trucks, classics, performance cars, and newly purchased vehicles.

Is ceramic coating really worth it in Texas?

Yes. Texas heat, UV exposure, hard water, dust, and road grime are hard on automotive paint. Ceramic coating acts like a protective layer for your clear coat, helping reduce fading, oxidation, and maintenance effort while keeping your vehicle looking better for longer.

Does ceramic coating prevent scratches?

Ceramic coating can increase scratch resistance, but it does not make your vehicle scratch-proof. It helps protect against light wash marring and contamination, but it will not prevent rock chips, deep scratches, dents, or impact damage.

Does ceramic coating replace paint protection film?

No. Ceramic coating is excellent for gloss, chemical resistance, UV protection, hydrophobic performance, and easier maintenance. Paint protection film is better for impact protection against rock chips and road debris.

Can ceramic coating be applied to a new vehicle?

Yes, and new vehicles are often great candidates. However, many new vehicles still need light polishing or paint correction before coating due to dealership washing, transportation defects, or minor paint imperfections.

Can older vehicles be ceramic coated?

Yes. Older vehicles can benefit greatly from ceramic coating, especially after proper decontamination and paint correction. The better the surface is prepared, the better the coating will look, perform and provide increased longevity to paint that might otherwise be past its "service life".

Why is ceramic coating expensive?

The cost is not just the coating product. Most of the value comes from the prep work: washing, decontamination, clay bar treatment, polishing, paint correction, panel prep, careful installation, and proper curing. Prep is what determines the final gloss, bonding, and long-term performance.

How long before I can wash my vehicle after coating?

We recommend avoiding washing the vehicle until the coating has had proper time to cure, typical cases are 1 day after leaving the shop to get wet and at least 3-5 days before washing with any chemicals. We will provide care instructions after installation based on the coating package used and current weather conditions.

Graphene Coatings

What is graphene coating?

Graphene coating is an advanced evolution of ceramic coating technology. It is designed to provide enhanced slickness, durability, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and reduced water spotting compared to many traditional ceramic systems.

What is the difference between ceramic and graphene coating?

Traditional ceramic coatings are commonly based on SiO2 technology. Graphene coatings use graphene oxide(rGO) technology to improve performance characteristics such as slickness, durability, water behavior, and resistance to heat and chemicals. Both are applied in a similar professional process.

Is graphene coating worth it?

For customers wanting upgraded performance, graphene coating can absolutely be worth it. It offers excellent gloss, water repellency, chemical resistance, and long-term durability, making it a strong option for daily drivers, premium vehicles, and long-term ownership.

What is self-healing graphene protection?

Self-healing graphene coating technology is designed to help reduce the appearance of very light surface marring under certain conditions. It does not make the vehicle damage-proof, but it offers premium long-term protection and preservation.

Warranty & Maintenance

What is included with your coating warranty?

All coating packages include one complimentary exterior detail approximately one month after installation. This allows us to inspect the coating, confirm proper curing, and make sure it is performing as expected.

Do I need annual maintenance for my coating warranty?

Yes. During the warranty period, we need to see the vehicle at least once per year for an exterior maintenance detail. This helps verify the coating is being cared for properly and continues performing as designed.

What happens if part of the coating breaks down early?

If a coated area shows unexpected premature breakdown during the warranty period, we will inspect the affected panel. If covered, we will re-polish that panel and professionally reapply the coating.

How should I wash a ceramic coated vehicle?

Use a pH-neutral soap, quality wash mitt, clean microfiber towels, and avoid automatic brush car washes. Proper washing helps reduce marring and keeps the coating performing at its best.

Detailing Preparation

What should I do before my detail appointment?

Remove personal items, large trash, cups, toys, and anything that may slow down the cleaning process. This allows us to spend more time detailing your vehicle and less time clearing it out.

Should I remove child seats before my appointment?

Yes. We prefer that parents or guardians remove and reinstall child seats. This helps prevent damage and ensures the seat is reinstalled properly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Should I mention stains, scratches, or odors ahead of time?

Absolutely. If there is a stain, scratch, odor, pet hair issue, or specific area of concern, let us know before the appointment. The more information we have, the better we can focus on your priorities.

Can heavily cluttered vehicles cost extra?

In some cases, yes. Excessively dirty or cluttered vehicles may require additional time and may incur an added fee. We will always communicate clearly if extra time is needed.

Paint Correction

Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?

In most cases, yes. Ceramic coating locks in the current condition of the paint. Paint correction helps remove swirl marks, haze, oxidation, and defects so the coating bonds to a cleaner, smoother, glossier surface.

Will paint correction remove every scratch?

Not always. Paint correction can remove or reduce many swirl marks, light scratches, haze, and oxidation. Deep scratches that go through the clear coat may not be safely removable, but they can often be improved to the point the are not noticable.

What is a one-step paint correction?

A one-step correction uses machine polishing to improve gloss and remove a noticeable amount of defects. It is a great option for many daily drivers and coating preparation packages.

What is a multi-step paint correction?

Multi-step correction is a more advanced process designed to remove heavier defects and refine the finish to a higher level. It is typically recommended for neglected paint, dark colors, show vehicles, or premium coating packages.

WHAT IS CERAMIC COATING?

Ceramic coating is a transparent, hydrophobic and protective layer that can be applied to virtually every vehicle surface. While it is most commonly used on cars and other vehicles, it can also enhance the gloss, resilience, of many other types of non porous surfaces. This advanced coating forms a robust barrier between the surface and environmental elements, shielding it from scratches, UV rays, and other potential damage, ensuring a long-lasting, pristine finish.

HOW DOES IT PROTECT MY VEHICLE?

The simplest way to describe ceramic or graphene coatings are like a high tech wax, except wax is oil or paraffin based and cannot handle heat or harsh chemicals for very long without breaking down and constant need to be reapplied, sometimes monthly!

Ceramic coating forms a semi-permanent bond with your car, creating a hydrophobic surface that is temperature resistant(up to 1600F) and repels water, dirt, and other contaminants.

This protective layer guards against UV damage, oxidation, and minor scratches along with harsh chemicals, ensuring your vehicle stays looking its best for years to come.

WHO IS CERAMIC COATING FOR?

Ceramic coating is perfect for anyone who loves their car and wants to keep it looking its best for years to come. Whether you own a luxury vehicle, a daily driver, or a cherished classic, ceramic coating offers unmatched protection and makes it easier to clean for all types of cars.

Is ceramic coating really worth it in Texas?

Texas roads and weather make the case for ceramic coating stronger than in many other states. Here's why: Unlike wax that is oil paraffin based, ceramic coatings are extremely UV and Heat Resistant. Automotive clear coat is urethane which is a form of “plastic”, while it is very durable and protective it is not invincible to heat and UV. The brutal Texas sun can cause paint to fade and your clear coat to degrade, oxidize, or crack over time.

Once your clear coat begins to degrade there is no stopping it either, new paint jobs can range into the thousands easily $5000+. Ceramic coating acts like sunscreen(protective layer) for your vehicle, helping it maintain color and gloss even in 100º+ heat.

The best benefit in my opinion is the “ease of washing” dirt doesn’t stick to the vehicle, meaning washing is much easier and less labor intensive which also in turns means there is less abrasion happening to your vehicle during routine maintenance washes. That alone means your vehicle will look BETTER, LONGER!

Whats the difference between Ceramic Coatings vs. Graphene Coatings?

Most ceramic coatings on the market are comprised of Sio2 (Silicone Dioxide) which is commonly referred to as Silica, also known as sand or glass.

Graphene was discovered in 2004 and won a Nobel prize in 2010 due to its incredible attributes which have shown to be 100X stronger than steel while remaining flexible and not breaking. This known element has since been broken down into reduced graphene oxide(rGO) and combined with other compounds to create an enhanced version of “ceramic”.

Graphene coatings utilize this innovative technology to make a formula that takes ceramic coatings to the next level. Making them easier to apply while providing additional benefits and results.

Basically this means that while the chemical composition is different from traditional ceramics the end product is essentially the same. Graphene is the next evolution on the tried and true Ceramic Coating and are applied in a very similar manner while reducing some of the risks and potential downsides.

Is graphene coating really worth it?

Graphene has a inherent nature to lay out almost perfectly smooth on its own. This is because Graphene forms a self leveling interlocking double layer of protection on the car's surface, graphene resists UV rays and chemical damage better than any other coating. It also makes the car more water-repellent and dust-resistant, giving it a smooth and glossy finish that lasts longer.
